(CARMEL, CA.) The Shivas Irons Society announced today that the public is invited to participate in its 17th Anniversary Celebration Tournament at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, California.
On Saturday, May 30, 2009 the Society will hold its annual fundraiser at this newly renovated and highly acclaimed venue. The course has hosted qualifying rounds for the US Open and the PGA Tour’s Q-School, Nationwide Tour events and most recently, along with Pebble Beach Golf Links, the Champions Tour’s Wal-Mart First Tee Open. According to Links magazine, Bayonet’s $13 million makeover ranks it with other stellar renovations of public courses like Long Island’s Bethpage Black and San Francisco’s Harding Park.
The theme for the day is “The Art, Science and Spirit of Golf Course Architecture” and will feature a presentation and dialogue with special guests Forrest Richardson and Bo Links.
Richardson is an award-winning golf course architect and author of two books, Routing the Golf Course: The Art & Science that Forms the Golf Journey (2002) and Bunkers, Pits & Other Hazards (2006), as well as numerous scholarly articles on all aspects of golf course architecture.
Bo Links is a San Francisco attorney and writer, and is the author of the much heralded mystical golf novel Follow the Wind (1996). The aptly named Links is an avid and accomplished golfer, a popular speaker and a prize-winning amateur golf course architect. Links has the distinction of being the two-time defending champion of Golf World Magazine’s Lido Design Competition.
Included for the $225 fee for the day are 18 holes of golf with cart, box lunch, BBQ dinner, prizes, special pre-golf presentation, post-golf entertainment and a silent auction. A portion of the fee is tax-deductible. Foursomes signing up receive a $40 saving.
“This is more than just a charity golf event…,” says Society president Steve Cohen, “…it is a fun, educational opportunity to engage with like-minded golfers who value all facets of the game.”
Golfing as well as non-golfing participants are welcome. For complete information on the event, please visit the Society’s website at www.shivas.org.
