Mesa, AZ – Dixon Golf, the Official Golf Ball of the 2009 Egolf Amateur Tour, announced the recycling results of their week long Earth Day Initiative today. The Earth Day Initiative ran from April 18th thru April 25th, 2009.
During the week long Earth Day Initiative, 27 tournaments were held throughout the country and players were asked to bring in their old golf balls for recycling. Amazingly, over 30,000 golf balls were recycled.
“We never expected to get this kind of participation,” said William Carey, Executive Vice President of Dixon Golf. “The main goal of this initiative was to encourage golfers to be environmentally conscious and get them accustomed to recycling their old golf balls. Based on the number of balls that were turned in, I’d say they caught on pretty quickly! At the Phoenix event, one of the players, Bob Aussprung, a local fire fighter and helicopter pilot, donated 1,817 balls himself! It’s good to know that so many golfers out there are ready and willing to do their part. We’d like to thank all the golfers who participated as well as the local tournament organizers and head professionals who did such a great job and make this event a huge success! We even got help from companies like FedEx, who picked up the used golf balls for us at several of the golf courses. It was a tremendous team effort and it really paid off. We can’t wait until next year…it’s sure to be even bigger and better!”
“When players recycled their old golf balls we gave them a brand new sleeve of Dixon Earth golf balls,” said Joe White, Vice President of Sales for Dixon Golf. “I was at the Southern Oaks event with my son, Evan. The response we got to the 100% Eco-Friendly Earth ball was extremely positive. Several players came up to us and commented on how well the Earth ball performed. The fact that it was Eco-Friendly actually took a back seat to the distance and performance they were experiencing, which is no surprise to us. This is a High-Performance golf ball, when you play it yourself, you’ll see what we mean.”
Amazingly; Dixon didn’t have to sacrifice playability to become environmentally friendly. Just the opposite, the Dixon Earth golf ball outperformed the Nike One Platinum, Callaway Tour ix and Titleist Pro V1, in independent testing by PGA TOUR Partners Club, and received an incredible 92% Approval Rating!
