Liberty, SC – Bid for tee-times at world-class courses at Doral, Pinehurst No. 2 and Harbour Town Golf Links, among hundreds of others, in an innovative online auction to raise money for turfgrass research. Only days remain before the hammer comes down on the Carolinas-based event which so far has attracted bids totaling $40,000.
Bidding in the Rounds4Research.com auction closes at 10pm Wednesday, May 6.
Proceeds benefit turfgrass research at North Carolina State and Clemson universities, two of the nation’s leading authorities in golf turf science. Auction organizers from the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association say budget strains on both colleges are squeezing research critical to the continued health of courses across the country.
Some of the most prestigious private courses in the Carolinas are among those offering the public a chance to choose a tee-time between now and next May. While some courses have drawn bids around $1,000 and as much as $1,600, other foursomes are going for as little as $25.
“We in the industry need to ensure our course conditions remain first-class,” says Carolinas GCSA president and certified golf course superintendent at Pinehurst No. 2, Paul Jett. “This is an exciting project because golfers can get a bargain or play a course they would never be able to otherwise while the industry and universities benefit at the same time.”
