PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance Chooses TrackMan To Support Player Development and Golf Research Initiatives

Vedbæk, Denmark, May 5, 2009 – The PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance (formerly the PGA Learning Center), in Port St. Lucie, Fla., has chosen TrackMan™, the industry-standard in club delivery and ball flight monitors, to support its player development and golf research initiatives. TrackMan will play an integral role in building upon The Center’s programs by providing meaningful information that can be used in building benchmarks and results-based player development programs.

“TrackMan provides us with valuable information and data on both ball flight and club delivery,” said Joe Hallett, PGA general manager, the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance, a part of PGA Village, which also encompasses the PGA Golf Club and PGA Historical Center golf museum. “Many top players, coaches, and instructors around the world have integrated this technology into their practice and player development programs, yielding outstanding results. We are excited about being able to offer TrackMan to PGA members and students alike, in order to enhance their golf instruction experience at the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance.”

The PGA of America and TrackMan will work together to build upon existing benchmarks and teaching programs which use TrackMan information. For example, teams from the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance and TrackMan are collaborating to develop tests in order to benchmark the shot-making abilities of golfers across the spectrum of handicaps and age. Further, the two partners will build a database of average club speed, ball speed, carry distance, spin rate, club path, etc., for these same players, as well as what types of intervention cause the most significant improvement in these parameters. This information will prove valuable in further enhancing the expertise of the more than 28,000 men and women PGA Professionals.

TrackMan provides key data on ball launch conditions and club delivery parameters to derive new insights that can help instructors, including club delivery variables, such as swing plane, attack angle, club path, and face angle; and has made significant discoveries about their effect on resulting ball flight.

“According to the traditional ball flight laws that have been taught through the years, the initial direction of the ball is dictated by the club path,” said TrackMan CTO and co-founder Fredrik Tuxen. “However, TrackMan now tells us even more. As a rule of thumb, the horizontal launch angle is only 15 percent determined by the club path and 85 percent determined by the face angle. TrackMan also helps instructors easily understand and communicate the sometimes complicated concept of swing plane vs. club path, and how this should be communicated to students of the game.”

PGA Professionals and amateur golfers who are interested in learning more about using TrackMan as a tool to improve their instruction and golf game can contact the PGA Center for Golf Learning and Performance by calling (800) 800-GOLF (4653) or visiting www.pgavillage.com/stlucie.
