Arizona State Ends the Regular Season as Top Team in D-I Poll

NEW YORK, NY-The fifth and final Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll of the spring season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the May 11 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com.

Arizona State, fresh of its victory over UCLA and Southern California in the Pac-10 Championship, earned 16 of the 18 first-place votes and solidified its number one ranking in the final D-I poll of the season. The Sun Devils finished the regular season with four victories and nine top-five finishes in nine starts. ASU hosts the West Regional this week at the Karsten Course at ASU in Tempe, Ariz.

UCLA, Southern California and Oklahoma State remain in the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 spots, respectively, however Auburn jumped into the No. 5 position after winning the SEC Championship in April. The Tigers were ranked No. 6 in the previous coaches’ poll.

There are no new teams in the top-10 or the top-25. The biggest move was Wake Forest from No. 10 to No. 7, after the Demon Deacons won the ACC Championship and became the first team other than Duke to win that conference title since 1995.
