Chicago Public Gem Set to Host U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying, IPGA Section Championship
MAY 14, 2009-GRAYSLAKE, IL-As it prepares to be one of just a handful of courses nationally to host final stage qualifying for the 2009 U.S. Open, Stonewall Orchard Golf Club will hold a Media Day and provide a complimentary round of golf for any interested media on Wednesday, June 3.
Open daily to the public and located in Chicago’s north suburbs, Stonewall Orchard is an Arthur Hills-designed masterpiece that will host Sectional Qualifying for the 2009 U.S. Open on June 8 and the Illinois PGA Section Championship August 31-September 2.
Stonewall Orchard has hosted U.S. Open qualifiers in 2003 and 2005 and is on rotation with Medinah and Olympia Fields Country Clubs as host for the Illinois PGA Section Championship.
The June 3 media day will feature lunch served at noon and 18-holes of golf beginning at 1 p.m.
Stonewall Orchard plays through heavily wooded areas, mature Oak and Pine trees and forces players to bring their “A” games if they want to post a respectable number. The layout features natural, rolling landscapes and features an abundance of tranquil wetlands and wildlife. From the 4,968-yard junior short course to the 7,074-yard championship 18-hole layout, each hole provides its own identity while completely immersing the golfing public into nature.
