Utilizes new Helicopter Ball Drop to raise much needed funds for area charities.
AURORA, Ore. – Usually the men and women associated with charity golf tournaments are asking others to donate to a charitable cause. That role was reversed recently at Langdon Farms Golf Club’s annual event coordinators day when the actual tournament coordinators reached into their own pockets to give to the Oregon Food Bank. Over $1,500 was raised for the Oregon Food Bank utilizing Langdon Farms Golf Club’s new Helicopter Ball Drop program.
Langdon Farms has taken the idea of the usual event raffle or 50/50 drawing to a higher level. In fact it is so high they employ a helicopter to make it work. The expert staff of tournament professionals at Langdon Farms is providing an innovative option to help raise funds weeks or even months before an actual charitable golf tournament is held. Using a helicopter, numbered golf balls are placed in a container and dropped from the helicopter onto a golf green creating a new version of a closest to the pin contest. Prizes are awarded to the person who’s golf ball ends up the closest to the pin or if there is a hole in one. At the event, Langdon Farms tournament coordinators unveiled their Ball Drop concept and in the process raised over $1500 that was donated to the Oregon Food Bank.
“As the economy gets tighter you need to be more creative to raise funds for charity” said Rene Krause, Sales Manager at Langdon Farms Golf Club. Whether it is through our Charity All Stars program or our new Ball Drop program, we can show a charitable group planner how to net anywhere from $3500 up to $10,000 before the golf tournament even tees off!” added Krause.
No stranger to hosting tournaments and helping area charities raise much needed funds. In fact Langdon Farms has been honored by Portland Business Journal as the “#1 Course in Oregon To Host A Tournament or Corporate Event”. 2009 marks the fifth consecutive year Langdon Farms topped all others in this category of the best courses to hold a golf tournament or corporate event.
Rated four out of five stars by Golf Digest’s Best Places To Play for 2009 and ranked #6 in Golfweek magazine’s Best Courses You Can Play, State-By-State Ranking for 2009, Langdon Farms is home to 18 holes of stunning golf designed by John Fought and Robert Cupp. Langdon Farms Golf Club opened to rave reviews in 1995 and immediately became a favorite in the Portland area. Over the years, the local, regional and even national golf writers have consistently recognized it as a truly unique golf experience. The “Big Red Barn” Clubhouse, winner of Golf Inc’s “Best New Clubhouse” award, was modeled after the original barn on Mr. Langdon’s farm. The original barn, built in 1916, actually comes into play down the left side of the 8th hole. The Big Red Barn clubhouse, creative signage, theme development, and links-style golf course design and maintenance elements have all contributed to the exceptional reputation of Langdon Farms. The golf facility is open, as displayed at the entrance, to the “PUBLIC ONLY” and specializes in hosting tournaments, outings and special events.
