Ellen G. McGowen, 80, passed away on May 3rd, 2009. Born and raised in Detroit, the 18-year-old high school beauty queen married Neil McGowen in 1947. She is survived by her seven sons Brian, Bruce, Michael, Blake, Barry, Patrick, Andrew and daughter Amy.
The McGowens moved to Delray Beach, Fla., in 1969. Ellen became manager of the Worth Avenue decorator boutique, “Bagatelle,” and later “Gattle’s” Harbor Bay bed and bath shop. McGowen’s daughter would succeed her as president of McGowen Displays Inc., the store display company Ellen and Neil founded in 1979.
Under the anniversary heading in the Brevard, N.C., paper, Ellen joked she and Neil “celebrated 62 long miserable years.”
