System Gives Biomechanics Reporting On Body Motion Throughout The Golf Swing
North Stonington, Conn., May 20, 2009 – Lake of Isles Golf Academy has recently received one of only three Golf Biodynamics 3D systems in the country. The high-tech swing analysis system allows Lake of Isles golf instructors to get a biomechanics report on the student’s real-time body motion throughout the golf swing all in 3D. From there, the instructor can develop a personal plan for improvement based on the report which also highlights any physical limitations of the student that would affect swing and range of motion.
“We are very excited to be able to offer one of the most sophisticated swing analyses in the country,” said Derek Hooper, director of instruction at Lake of Isles Golf Academy. “It is like getting an MRI of your golf swing. The student is able to walk away from the lesson with a clear understanding of what they need to work on to improve their swing path and motion. Plus through the report, we can see any physical limitations that the student might have and make the proper adjustments to their swing to maximize their performance.”
How The Golf BioDynamics 3D System Works:
Receivers and sensors are attached to various parts of the body that distort the magnetic field created by the transmitter. The data is then collected and analyzed and compared to parameters of the “model swing” of any specific body type. Only a 3D system can measure the timing sequence of the golf swing accurately. A short three-to-four page report is prepared and presented to the student. The report includes measurements at address alignment, address bending, address tilting, backswing rotations and body position.
Biofeedback and the Learning Process
The Golf Biodynamics 3D system has a biofeedback capability that enables the student to accelerate the learning of a new motor skill (movement). This feature allows the instructor to select an area in need for improvement. By selecting parameters for the required sensor to move within, the student is able to “feel” the change by an audible tone triggered by a correct or incorrect movement. This is an extremely valuable tool for players of all levels.
“The 3D system provided both visual and technical feedback that helped me better understand my strengths and weaknesses,” said David Barris, Lake of Isles member. “With a single digit handicap I was looking to take my game to another level, this system has provided me with the knowledge to do that.”
The system was designed by Dr. Rob Neal, an industry leader in the biomechanics of the golf swing for more than 20 years. He has a PHD in Biomechanics from University of Queensland Australia.
Hooper, also has a strong background in biomechanics with a degree in Human Movement Studies and a degree in sports science and teaching methodology.
Lake of Isles offers a 90-minute session that includes 3D swing analysis, full written report and biofeedback training. The session is $225.00. The Golf Biodynamic 3D system will also be used during golf schools, private instruction and the popular Fit Fore Golf program.
Lake of Isles, a 36-hole Rees Jones-designed golf club located in North Stonington, Connecticut, opened in May 2005. Owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and located across the street from Foxwoods Resort Casino, the two courses wind their way through 900 acres of wooded Connecticut countryside and around a 90-acre lake. Managed by Troon Golf, the worldwide leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing, Lake of Isles offers the ultimate golf experience. In addition to superior service and impeccable course conditions, amenities include a 50,000 sq. ft. clubhouse, a state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor practice facility.
