In only his fourth tournament using a Tiger Shark UltraTac grip, the current 7th ranked player on the PGA Tour set a course record and earned $1.17 million for his fifth PGA Tour victory this weekend at the Byron Nelson Classic.
The South African used a red UltraTac grip and finished the event tied for 1st in Putts Per Round (25.8), 1st in Putts Per GIR (1.531), and 1st in Birdies (26).
Precise putting was the key to player setting the new course record of 19-under 261 at the TPC Four Seasons Resort Las Colinas course. That broke the tournament record of 18 under set by Loren Roberts and Steve Pate in 1999.
The 11-year PGA Tour veteran earned his fifth PGA Tour victory and his first since 2007.
“Obviously this tournament is very special,” said the emotional champion. “It’s one that I wish I had have been able to win it and look up and see Byron sitting there at the 18th green. What a wonderful name to be associated with now.”
Over 40 professionals have put a Tiger Shark jumbo grip in play on the PGA Tour, Nationwide Tour, Champions Tour and the European Tour.
The larger surface area of the oversized putter grips brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. KJ Choi uses another oversized grip made by Tiger Shark called the SuperStroke, and has won three times on the PGA Tour with the jumbo grip that measures 1.67 inches in diameter. With the latest win at the Byron Nelson, Tiger Shark putter grips have claimed more victories on the PGA Tour than any other oversized putter grips on the market.
Tiger Shark sold more than 1 million putter grips since they originally launched the oversized grip in 2004. The acquisition of SuperStroke early this year made Tiger Shark the predominant jumbo putter grip company in golf, one of the few surging new markets in the golf business today. Tiger Shark and SuperStroke are widely regarded as the #1 and #2 selling jumbo putter grips in golf, and can be purchased at over 1,400 golf retailers across the country.
