Boulder , Colorado – KBS Tour Steel shafts continued their ascent on the professional tours with a double victory on Sunday. First, there was a win at the prestigious Byron Nelson Championship in Las Colinas, TX and then a major win at The Senior PGA Championship in Cleveland , OH . The winner of the Byron Nelson Championship was the first player to ever win at Colonial and the Nelson. The Senior PGA Champion was a special PGA invitee who has not had a win for 20 years.
Both players boldly applied their skills to achieve victory and both relied on the new KBS Tour steel shafts in their irons. While only in its second year of production, the KBS Tour steel shafts have racked up 12 Tour victories, a T2 in the 2009 Masters, and now, a major.
“KBS Tour Steel shafts provide a fresh approach to steel shaft design and manufacturing”, says Rob Cheng, Global Sales Director for FST, the company that developed and manufactures the KBS Tour shafts. “We combined our unique manufacturing capability with innovative design to make KBS Tour steel shafts possible. Without a doubt, we were elated with the results on Sunday.”
According to FST’s renowned shaft designer, Kim Braly, “Sunday’s dual victories were unbelievably gratifying for me. We stepped outside the normal parameters and applied a new design method in the development of the KBS Tour shaft. The objective was to achieve a specific ball flight while maximizing the flow of energy in the shaft, like a whip. By studying the MOI (moment of inertia) and the EI (flexural rigidity) of varying shaft sections, we were able to specify the most effective reductions in stiffness throughout the length of the shaft.
Expect to see more KBS news from the Tours worldwide. More than 30 top-tiered Tour players have already switched to the KBS Tour steel iron shafts and wedge shafts. The players who have switched to the KBS Tour during the past year are improving their world rankings, and that is creating a lot of interest among other players.
Manufactured by FST, KBS Tour steel shafts incorporate high-quality precision manufacturing processes such as: an exclusive oil- quench tempering method; a tapered tip section that provides a tour-proven feel; a higher-than-traditional center of gravity for extra mass in the club head; and shaft weights and frequencies with tolerances that ensure repeatability and precise club fitting.
