SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Jay Larscheid of Longbow Golf Club, Jeremy Hayman and Robb Palmgren, both of Eagle Mountain Golf Club, joined 18 other golf professionals from the Southwest Section PGA (SWSPGA) to raise funds for Arizona Special Olympics by playing 100 holes of golf in a day on Tuesday, May 26. The SWSPGA created the program to assist its golf professionals in fundraising efforts for local charities. This year, the 21 professionals who participated in the 100-hole event raised a combined $72,871, with Larscheid, Hayman and Palmgren accounting for $9,746 of the total. Details of the fundraising program:
· Each PGA Professional pledged $1 per hole to support his/her own effort.
· The PGA Professional then solicited per-hole pledges for the 100 holes played.
· Various sponsors included club members, friends, family, vendors and daily guests.
· Those electing to pledge simply visited the website of their professional, selected the amount per hole and paid with a credit card.
· The PGA Professionals played 100 holes of golf on his/her home course.
· Proceeds from the event support Special Olympics Arizona and the SWSPGA Foundation.
At Longbow Golf Club, Jay Larscheid hit the first tee shot at 5:09 a.m., and holed the last putt at 3:16 p.m. that afternoon. It took him a total of 10 hours and 7 minutes to play the 100 holes, and that’s with a minor delay as he waited for the mowers to prepare the golf course for the day’s play.
“Despite playing more golf in one day than I have in months, I feel pretty good today, surprisingly,” said Larscheid on the day after his golf marathon. “The high point of my day came when some of our local Special Olympians stopped by to cheer me on. It made my day. Thank you to all of my sponsors who made this day so worthwhile.”
And worthwhile it certainly was. With the generosity of Larscheid’s sponsors, he was able to personally raise $6,130 for Special Olympics and SWSPGA Foundation.
Two other golf professionals from the OB Sports family, Jeremy Hayman and Rob Palmgren, played 100 holes each at their home course, Eagle Mountain Golf Club. Together they raised $3,616 for the causes.
“I would like to thank everyone who made donations and supported us today, we couldn’t have done it without you,” said Hayman. “Thanks to you, the money we raised will go a long way towards two great causes. Not very often is one able to raise money by doing something they love. It’s a win-win situation.”
