FRENCH LICK, IN – Jim Kahn of Golf Digest Publications and Cody Law of Golf Mesquite Nevada teamed for 44 points to win the ING/International Pairs World Qualifier at the 19th Annual ING Spring Conference at French Lick Resort recently.
The best-ball modified Stableford qualifying event on the new Pete Dye Golf Course at French Lick is part of the annual networking and educational gathering conducted by the non-profit International Network of Golf.
The victory earned for Kahn and Law a trip Carnoustie in Scotland to represent the USA and the ING in the sixth Interntional Pairs World Finals Oct. 11-13. Most expenses are covered for the two in the sponsorship arrangement between International Pairs and ING. George Baker and Mike Vandiver of Razor Golf in Tampa finished second by one point. It was their second runerup finish in this event in three years.
The International Network Of Golf, a 19-year-old non-profit, media-based networking organization whose mission is to bring together members of the media and business communities to enhance communication in golf, conducts the conference. ING is open to anyone in the golf industry or media.
Both Kahn and Law were surprised that their point total held up for the victory.
“I really didn’t think we had a chance,” said Kahn, a 9-handicapper. “But I guess the challenging golf course made it tough on everyone.” Added Law, “When one of us was struggling on a hole, the other seemed to always be in play.”
ING was the first group to conduct a tournament on the spectacular Pete Dye layout at French Lick, which opened in late April. It was built upon one of the highest points in Indiana, and features narrow, rolling fairways, small, undulating greens and stunning views from every hole.
Kahn is Senior Director of Strategic Development for Golf Digest Publications. This was his fourth attempt in the ING/International Pairs Qualifier. Law, a 20-handicapper, is Executive Director of the golf marketing organization in Mesquite. This was his first attempt at the International Pairs Qualifier.
Kahn and Law each will carry USA/ING logo’d golf bags provided by Razor Golf, and they will wear blazers from Jackets Required.
