The objective was to achieve a penetrating ball flight by maximizing the flow of energy in the shaft, like a whip. By studying the MOI (moment of inertia) and the EI (flexural rigidity) of varying shaft sections, we were able to specify the most effective reductions in stiffness throughout the length of the shaft.
