18Birdies to Sponsor Women’s Golf Coaches Association
18Birdies to serve as Title Sponsor for the WGCA All-American Scholar Awards
Mobile golf technology startup, 18Birdies, has announced it will be sponsoring the Women’s Golf Coach Association (WGCA), which will include naming rights for the annual All-American Scholar Awards. This follows the 18Birdies’ sponsorship of the Golf Coaches Association of America, which was announced earlier this year.
“Supporting the growth of women’s golf has always been a priority for 18Birdies, so it made sense for us to show support for the WGCA,” said 18Birdies CEO, Eddy Lui. “At the same time, this will give us a great opportunity to learn about the technology needs of its member coaches.”
Every year, the WGCA recognizes both outstanding academic and athletic achievements in women’s college golf and has what is considered to be one of the highest standards for selection in all of college athletics. For a player to receive the prestigious honor, they must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. Last year a total of 1,021 women’s collegiate golfers were given the award.
“The WGCA is excited for this opportunity and we’d like to thank 18Birdies for their support of women’s collegiate golf,” said WGCA President Todd Oehrlein. “We have a shared goal to grow women’s collegiate golf, as well as women’s golf in general, and hope it’s something we can build upon as we begin this long-lasting relationship.”
The sponsorship of the WGCA adds to 18Birdies’ commitment to supporting the growth of women’s golf. Earlier this year, 18Birdies launched a partnership with the LPGA and introduced features in the app that catered to beginner women’s golfers. The partnership with the LPGA included releasing the findings of an 18Birdies ethnographic study, “It’s His Game, Not Her Game”, that examined barriers and motivations around women’s golf participation and offered recommendations for getting more women playing golf. Within the app, 18Birdies launched a player matching feature that lets women discover and connect with other women golfers and a women’s-focused knowledge center containing beginner level instructional content/tips and the latest women’s golf news.
