New for 2009 is the Women’s City Amateur, contested by up to 100 golfers vying for this first-ever title.
Recognized as the granddaddy of the tournament series, the 105th City Amateur does not have a cut-line after one or two rounds like past years, as this year all golfers will advance to weekend play.
Registration and information about player qualifications are available at www.cpdgolf.com and CPD courses. In addition to greens fees, tournaments include a tee gift, lunch and prize eligibility.
“The Chicago Park District seeks to uphold and enhance the spirit of our amateur tournaments,” said Timothy J. Mitchell, General Superintendent and CEO of the Chicago Park District. “We look forward to welcoming golfers to our courses for a series of wonderful events this summer.”
“We’re proud to further enhance the value and the long-standing tradition of citywide amateur tournaments in Chicago,” says Bill Rehanek, Senior Vice President of Billy Casper Golf (“BCG”), operator of the CPD courses. “Golfers will experience a fantastic tournament program: more competition rounds than ever on excellent course conditions, while the layout represents fair and enjoyable challenges.”
In January, BCG was selected by CPD, the City’s parks and recreation arm, to manage its golf facilities. The company has committed $5.5 million over 15 years to an aggressive property-enhancement program at the six courses, three driving ranges and learning centers, and two miniature golf courses. This includes work on course tees, fairways and greens; detailed attention to turf maintenance; and upgrades to buildings and facades.
BCG turnkeys all aspects of golf course and property maintenance, staffing and training, clubhouse operations, golf instruction, marketing and public relations, special events and financial management.
