He Used NS Pro 850s in His Irons
SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (June 4, 2009) -Nippon Shaft today congratulated the winner of this year’s European Open after he used steel Nippon Shaft products in his TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons throughout the 72-hole tournament.
The 39-year-old Frenchman recorded a one-stroke victory over three other players, posting a 7-under par total 281 at the London Golf Club in Kent on May 31.
The player’s TaylorMade Tour Preferred irons (3-9) were outfitted with lightweight NS Pro 850 shafts, an 85-gram steel shaft manufactured by Nippon Shaft. The player has used for the last four years since an elbow injury made it uncomfortable to play with heavier steel shafts.
After the elbow injury, which he sustained in a skiing accident, the player tried to use graphite shafts in his irons but to no avail. He tested Nippon Shaft’s steel NS PRO 850s and found the lightness, feel, and consistency to be just what he was looking for and has stayed with them ever since, according to Nippon Shaft officials.
“Nippon Shaft is very happy and proud to have helped this player bring out the best in his game,” said Hiroyuki Fukuda, manager of sales and marketing for Nippon Shaft in North America. “Our goal is to help pros and recreational players alike bring out the best in their games. While winning or losing a tournament obviously depends more on the player than on his equipment, we believe that Nippon Shaft’s high quality steel irons can help a player get the most out of the talent he has.”
The player won 300,000 British pounds for the victory, which he dedicated to his wife, who is pregnant with the couple’s second child. He also receives a five-year exemption to play on the European Tour.
Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia with more than 80 percent of the consumer market and it ranks No. 2 in North America. Currently, more than 100 touring professionals worldwide use Nippon Shaft products, resulting in more than 40 victories in the last five years.
Nippon Shaft is a subsidiary of privately-held NHK, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer based in Yokohama, Japan. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill.
