WEST PALM BEACH, FL-Five golfers earned the right to advance to the U.S. finals of the World Golfers Championship Sept. 12-13 at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL in a qualifying here at the President Country Club.
Included were the husband-wife duo of Lancey and Stuart Cunningham. Lancey posted a gross 98 for a net 76 to win the fourth flight (15-20) while Stuart matched her 98 for a net 71 to win the fifth flight (21-25).
Marco Solerno, who carries a 1 handicap, posted a gross 75 for a net 74 to win the first flight (0-5) while Peter Kane posted 86 for a net 75 to win the second flight (6-10) and Don Lyons shot 89 for a net 71 to win the third flight (11-15).
The five flight winners in Florida earn spots in the World Golfers Championship, scheduled Oct. 24-31 at the Marbella Golf Resort in Spain.
The Mission Inn will host a qualifier June 13 on its El Campeon course while the Woodbridge Golf Club in Wylie, TX will entertain members of the DFW Senior Tour and their guests on Aug. 10. More qualiifying sites will be announced soon.
Anders Bengtson reminded other clubs wishing to send teams to the U.S. finals that the deadline for qualifying events will be Aug. 20. The entry fee is $600 per team.
