Spring, Texas – Can work and fun go hand-in-hand? Just ask David Bergeron, who has taken his lifelong love of golf and kids and turned his passions into a career by obtaining the rights to the fastest growing at-school, after-school golf enrichment program, TGA.
Since the age of seventeen, David has worked his way through the Golf industry, starting in the cart barn to Assistant Professional, Head Professional and finally General Manager at some of Houston’s most prominent golf courses such as The Palmer Course, Longwood, Buffalo Creek, Lake Windcrest & Bryan Golf Club. When the idea was first brought to David’s attention about owning a company that incorporated his two passions, he could not turn down the opportunity.
“I decided to start the TGA model in this area because of a passion I have for kids, golf and the ability to be able to touch and be apart of thousands of youth lives. Anytime you can make a difference and be a positive roll model to kids it truly blesses your heart,” says Bergeron.
TGA, (http://www.golftga.com/), The Premier Junior Golf ProgramSM is known for its at-school, after school national golf enrichment program that introduces youth to the fun, positive, character-building aspects of golf. The program’s emphasis is on bringing the game into both public and private schools by providing a real-life golfing experience indoors or out, year round.
President and CEO of TGA, Joshua Jacobs remarked about David, “He is a real go-getter and TGA is thrilled that he has chosen to take the next step of his career along this path. His prior training in the golf industry, management experience and passion for kids will surely propel him to build a successful business in his community while impacting thousands of youth and their families.”
David was drawn to TGA at first glance not only because of the golf opportunity offered to the kids but the character development system built into the program. “TGA not only introduces golf but we also introduce life values that will stay with the students forever such as respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship & citizenship. When you instill these life values into a child you give them a great foundation to stand on in life,” says Bergeron. His only wish was that such a dynamic program could have been offered to him as a child.
About TGA
TGA was founded in 2003 with a mission to provide all K-8th grade students with access to the game of golf through the first national at-school, after-school Golf Enrichment Program. TGA has put more than 50,000 K-8th grade students through its programs, and there are 44 TGA programs in 22 states, with more than 1,800 schools participating.
TGA is one of the fastest-growing sports franchises and junior golf companies because the traditional barriers of convenience and cost that prevent 90% of children from playing golf are eliminated when golf is brought to the schools.
TGA’s 5 Level Golf Enrichment Program, developed by PGA and LPGA Golf Professionals and education experts, teaches the fundamentals, rules and etiquette of golf, while promoting golf’s life values through its character development initiative, “Play the Fair Way with TGA.” TGA transitions students from their schools to the golf course by offering camps, tournaments, clinics and private lessons.
TGA is endorsed and named as the official junior golf initiative by the National High School Golf Coaches Association (NHSGCA) and the Golf Range Association of America (GRAA); is a national supporting organization of the After School Alliance and Lights on AfterSchool, and is a corporate advocate and a partner of the President’s Challenge on Physical Fitness.
