June 16, 2009 — World Golf Champion Gary Player will officially inaugurate Modry Las Golf Club in a Grand Opening Event in Choszczno, Poland, on July 4, 2009, along with Poland’s Minister of Sport Miroslaw Drzewiecki. This course in Central Europe joins over 300 Player golf course designs across five continents. Player describes his design of Modry Las as “a classy golf course carved in a beautiful, natural landscape with mature pine forests, spring fed lakes and fields of wildflowers – just an incredible setting.” The course is characterized by Player’s distinct and dramatic bunkering and has already hosted tournaments on the Polish PGA Tour.
Mr. Player, a living golf legend who has won over 200 golf competitions including nine major tournaments, will be joined by members of the The Player Group, the director and team of Modry Las, local dignitaries and invited media. Following the Inaugural Tee Shot, Mr. Player will give a golf clinic/demonstration to guests. Through reservation only, guests will participate in a Texas Scramble Golf tournament and challenge Mr. Player on the 15th, one of the holes that he says will attract golfers from all over the region to Modry Las.
Modry Las has one of the most strategically exciting locations within the booming, refurbished regions of North Central Europe. It is located outside the city of Choszczno in the West Pomeranian region of northwestern Poland, a 45 minute drive southeast from the Baltic port city of Szczecin and near the German border, just a few hours from Berlin. Visitors from Scandinavian countries can reach Modry Las through ferry services across the Baltic Sea. They will be attracted not only to the beauty and challenge of the course, but to the longer season offered due to the milder, continental climate.
This region of rolling countryside with abundant virgin forests and lakes is historically a popular summer resort area which offers leisure activities such as kayaking, sculling and other water sports, as well as fishing, horseback riding, walking and biking trails and hunting. Golf has been gaining popularity in Poland over the last ten years as the country’s affluence has grown. There are presently 18 golf courses in Poland and several under construction. The Modry Las course was built to compete with the best courses in Europe. The Modry Las Golf Club marks the completion of the first step toward the planned Modry Las Golf Resort with 200 single home lots and it is an important addition to the renaissance of this region.
