#18 on the Hankins Course celebrates golfers’ longest drive of their lives through special contest
SILVIES, Oregon – The Links at Silvies Valley Ranch has announced the results of The 2021 Hixson Hole Challenge, a contest that recognizes each golfer who records their personal longest drive on Hankins #18. This year, 121 golfers recorded the longest drive of their life, with 11 of those driving the ball more than 400 yards.
The Hixson Hole Challenge, named after the course’s designer Dan Hixson, pushes golfers to “Nail It” and hit the longest drive of their lifetime. Golfers are allowed to use 12 legal advantages to accomplish the feat, including the use of two extra golf balls. Additional advantages include #18’s notoriously long, wide, and downhill fairway, and the course’s naturally high elevation.
“We’ve all had our fair share of bad finishing holes throughout our golf careers, so the goal of the Hixson Hole Challenge is to infuse that sense of accomplishment and personal victory that we all could use more of out on the Links,” said Sean Hoolehan, director of golf at Silvies. “To get to celebrate 121 players this year was thrilling, and we hope to see even more players take and succeed in the challenge next season.”
Golfers who successfully record the longest drive of their career on the final hole receive an engraved Silvies flask of rye whiskey and a complimentary round of Silvies famous “Horseshoe Nails” cocktail. Winners also get the privilege of signing the resort’s highly sought-after “Book of Winners.”
#18 on the award-winning Hankins Course has previously been named one of the “Best Long Golf Holes in North America” by Golf Advisor and one of the “Great Holes of the Northwest” by Pacific Northwest Golf Magazine.
The season may be over for this year, but there is plenty of winter fun to be had at Silvies. For more information on winter packages at the ranch, or to book ahead for golf getaways next year, visit https://silvies.us/
