June 26, 2009 (Oak Brook Terrace, IL) Zero Friction staff players Kenny Perry, Dean Wilson, and Ryan Palmer all posted sub-par scores on Thursday at the first round of the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. Perry dazzled with a course record-tying 61.
The event, which is being held at TPC River Highlands, showcases one of the strongest fields of the PGA Tour’s season.
Kenny Perry pulled away from the field shooting 9-under par on Thursday. Perry went on a tear on the front nine shooting 6-under par. A big part of Perry’s first round success was due to his 297 yard average driving distance. He also managed to hit 78% of greens in regulation and was 22nd in putts per green. Perry is coming off of a top-50 finish at the U.S. Open and won earlier this year at the FBR Open.
Dean Wilson showed early promise at the Travelers Championship as well. Wilson fired a 68 (-2) at TPC River Highlands. He hit 86% of fairways in regulation and hit 83% of greens in regulation. Wilson has 3 top-25 finishes so far in 2009.
Ryan Palmer also had a productive day as part of the Zero Friction staff. Palmer posted a score of 69 (-1) on Thursday. He averaged 294.5 yards per drive (17th in the field) and hit 79% of fairways in regulation. Palmer is going for his fifth top-50 finish of the season and won in November at the Ginn sur Mer Classic.
