Sisti Will Help Carry Message to Lawmakers: ‘Green Industry Enhances Quality of Life’
LEBANON, PA. (June 26, 2009) – When LebanonTurf’s Mike Sisti heads to Washington for PLANET’s Renewal & Remembrance project at Arlington National and Historical Congressional cemeteries next month, he’ll carry his work clothes, a few tools and a message for lawmakers.
“Members of the green industry help create and maintain the quality of life in communities across America,” said Sisti, marketing manager for LebanonTurf. “The industry is making valuable environmental, aesthetic and emotional contributions that need and deserve lawmakers’ support.”
The 13th annual Renewal & Remembrance project, which is conducted by the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), is expected to attract landscape and lawn care professionals from more than 300 companies across the nation for the July 13-14 event. PLANET members will spend the first day caring for the plants, trees and turf at the two cemeteries.
“It’s an honor to be able to show our respect and admiration for the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” Sisti said.
In the past 12 years, PLANET has contributed almost $2 million to the care of these historic landmarks.
On July 14, PLANET members will visit congressional leaders on Capitol Hill to speak with them about issues facing the green industry.
“This is an opportunity to participate directly in the political process,” Sisti said. “Some lawmakers may not be aware that the green industry is one of the few industries that actually reduces greenhouse gases through the removal of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”
Sisti will also be accompanied by his two sons, Michael, 6, and Andrew, 3, who will join other children in planting flowers at Arlington National Cemetery and participate in the laying of the wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
LebanonTurf is a Silver sponsor of PLANET and also supports the organization’s annual national Day of Service, when members volunteer to maintain and beautify green spaces in local communities.
