ASU’s Ashley Menne secured the individual title
[Hōkūala, Kauai] Arizona State ran away with the title today, posting an 822 tournament score (-43), 25 shots ahead of T2 University of Washington and University of North Carolina who finished 847 (-17). Four of ASU’s players were in the top six this week at the famed Jack Nicklaus Signature Ocean Course Hōkūala.
Arizona State University Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye noted, “It’s really exciting to see their hard work pay off. It’s been a bit of a journey and it’s certainly not an overnight success. We’ve been really working hard for a long time and we’ve had a lot of youth on our team – these ladies have really grown up in the past year and to watch them compete this way is really exciting and finally believing what’s possible.”
In regard to Menne’s putt on 18 coach noted, “I knew she could make it, she just needed to give herself a chance. You know it’s easy to let the nerves kick in and it did on her drive and approach shot but she hung in there and it was really great to see her finish strong.” Regarding having all four players finish in the top six Farr-Kaye added, “That doesn’t happen very often and I’m really happy for them.”
ASU was excited to get in some snorkeling here on Kauai after their round to celebrate and enjoy some of the beauty Kauai has to offer.
Ashley Menne commented about her round, “My first couple holes were great, I was in the flow, I was making putts and hitting it close. But I kind of fell off a bit on the back nine and so it was pretty nice to make that final putt on 18.” This is Menne’s first 54-hole collegiate win and she noted, “I’m super honored – I’m so grateful that it was here in Hawaii, such a beautiful place. It was four years coming, finally getting the job done and winning an individual championship, it feels nice.” Menne’s plan after graduation is to turn professional.
University of Washington senior Camille Boyd commented on coming in second overall, “I played some good golf and we’re in Hawaii so I can’t complain.” She added about her birdie on #3, “I drove it to about 40 yards and then chipped it to 15 feet and made the putt. I was able to take advantage of the course layout this weekend.”
