MIAMI, Fl (July 2, 2009) -Jim McLean, owner of the No. 1 ranked golf schools in America, and ranked No. 4 on Golf Digest’s list of Top-100 Instructors in the world, will be attending the 2009 U.S. Women’s Open Championship to be played at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, PA.
McLean, who has a phenomenal record of turning juniors into champions, will be working with one of his original prodigies – Cristie Kerr; and his latest prodigy Alexis Thompson.
Kerr, winner of the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open Championship is enjoying a stellar season on the LPGA Tour. She is currently (as of June 29) ranked No. 2 on the money list with $840,507 in earnings … and won at Kingsmill earlier this year. As a junior, Kerr became the first golfer to ever attain the status of the No. 1 ranked women amateur and the No. 1 ranked junior amateur in the history of women’s golf. Now, the highest ranked American in women’s golf, Kerr is looking to win her second U.S. Women’s Open Championship and will not only have her regular swing coach Bryan Lebedevitch (a Lead Master Instructor for the Jim McLean Golf Schools), by her side … but McLean as well. McLean, who was working with Tom Kite when he won the U.S. Open in 1992, will consult with Lebedevitch as the two will work to get Kerr back into the winner’s circle.
“He doesn’t want to change you! He just tries to simplify what you have, to take you to the very best you can be – and by still being you,” Kerr said when asked to write about Jim for his latest book, “The Eight-Step Swing”. And it’s that philosophy McLean will use when working with Kerr next week.
Meanwhile, Thompson is following in Kerr’s footsteps. Just 14-years-old, Thompson is currently ranked as the No. 1 junior golfer in girl’s golf and is ranked as the No. 3 amateur in women’s golf. Owner of a powerful golf swing, Thompson was low amateur in the season’s first LPGA Major – The Kraft Nabisco – and wowed golf fans with a sparkling 69 in the final round.
