JULY 6, 2009 – LAKE GENEVA, WI – Meetings and Conventions Magazine announced that Grand Geneva will receive its 2009 Gold Tee Award. This highly-respected award is given annually to outstanding golf/meeting properties worldwide. Winners of the Gold Tee Award were nominated and selected by the readers of M&C based on their overall excellence. 74 domestic and 11 offshore/international golf properties earned enough votes to win Gold Tee Awards in 2009.
“We would like to thank Meetings and Conventions Magazine for honoring us with the Gold Tee Award,” said Managing Director Patrick Hansen. “Meetings and conventions are very important to the success of Grand Geneva and anyone who has played golf here knows that our courses are second-to-none. Our recent property-wide renovations, which included improvements to all guest rooms, the outdoor pool deck and WELL Spa + Salon, make this an ideal location for business travel.”
“The meeting industry’s most well-regarded critics, the readers of M&C, have made their selections for the best in the world. M&C’s core readership, of over 65,000 corporate, incentive and association meeting planners, knows quality when they experience it and again have made their votes count, selecting the golf properties they believed to be outstanding,” said Bernard W. Schraer, Meetings & Conventions Group Publisher. “Our entire staff salutes the 85 properties worldwide that have distinguished themselves in this industry and earned the Gold Tee honor.”
Grand Geneva has two championship 18-hole golf courses – The Brute and The Highlands. The Brute, designed by Robert Bruce Harris, stretches over 7,000 yards and is one of the most challenging layouts in the Midwest. Enhanced with 68 bunkers, this par-72 layout has huge rolling greens averaging over 8,000 square feet.
The Highlands was originally designed by Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye and redesigned by Bob Cupp (1996) and Bob Lohmann (2006), with a major redesign on holes 9, 12 and 15. This Scottish-style course offers a shorter and tighter alternative to the Brute with environmentally-protected native grass areas lining the fairways.
The facility boasts 62,000 square feet of meeting and convention space which can accommodate meetings from 10 – 1,000 participants. Meeting planners have the option of catered lunches and dinners from Grand Geneva’s three world-class restaurants. Non-golfers can enjoy themselves at the WELL Spa + Salon, take a dip in the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hike through miles of nature trails or plunge down the new river kayak course.
