New SuperStroke Grip Helping Bettencourt Climb PGA Tour Rankings

July 9, 2009

A jumbo sized putter grip that is three times the size of a standard putter grip has been PGA Tour rookie Matt Bettencourt’s secret weapon as he continues to climb the rankings on the most competitive golf tour in the world.

Bettencourt has been using an all-new, all-white prototype 85-gram slip-on SuperStroke grip designed to inhibit the breakdown of the wrists since the HP Byron Nelson Championship at the end of May. The new putter grip has helped his putting significantly and helped him to put together an impressive string of events.

Matt has earned $545,537at his last 5 events on tour with 3 TOP 15 finishes at big events like the Memorial, the US Open and last week’s ATT&T National.

Has made every cut since his switch to the new grip and he has an average finish of 21st since making the switch.

In that time, Matt is averaging 28th in Putts Per Round (28.82 Putts Per Round), shaving off three strokes since switch to the new SuperStroke Lite.

His 1.704 PPGIR in his last 5 events would rank him 2nd in Putts Per GIR for the season.

Bettencourt has moved into 87th overall in the FedEx Point standings, one of the top ranking rookies on the PGA Tour.

“I putted extremely well at the US Open and I have made sure to put an identical backup grip on another putter, said Bettencourt. “I love everything about the new grip.”

The 85-gram slip-on SuperStroke Lite he is using will feature a new design and will be available in a golf retail shops across the nation beginning August 15th.

More About SuperStroke

The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips.
