YPSILANTI – Knowledgeable instruction, word-of-mouth endorsements and the convenience of a southeast Michigan full-service golf complex remain the cornerstones of success and public recognition for the Kendall Academy. In the current August issue of Golf Digest, three Kendall Academy teachers are listed among Michigan’s Top Teachers, led by founder Dave Kendall (ranked #4) who recently won his second Michigan Senior Open title in three years and staff members Paul Haase (#6) and Jeff Goble (#13).
Kendall twice has been voted Teacher of the Year (2000 & 2004) by his Michigan PGA Section members and Haase earned the Section’s Teacher of the Year honor in 2008.
“We’re pleased and humbled to be recognized by Golf Digest,” said Kendall who’s also serving as the Section’s President, “because it’s an honor based upon voting by our peers, our fellow PGA teaching professionals.”
In spite of a sluggish economy, Kendall Academy instructors– which number nine in all at the Miles of Golf complex near Ann Arbor-remain as busy as ever. (Satellite Kendall Academy centers were also opened this season in Grand Rapids at The Meadows GC and in Kalamazoo at Gull Lake View GC & Resort.)
“We’re running ahead of last year’s pace for lessons,” said Kendall Director of Instruction Goble. “The key has been word of mouth endorsements from the people we’ve worked with. Their friends watch them play and ask ‘Who’s your teacher?'”
Goble’s credentials include two decades of teaching, including nine years with Rick Smith at his schools in Naples, Fla., and Treetops Resort.
Haase’s lesson book includes Bill Zylstra, ranked as the No. 1 Senior Amateur in the country by Golfweek magazine and the Golf Association of Michigan’s Senior Player of the Year last two years. Zylstra recently won the inaugural Michigan Senior Amateur Match Play Championship.
“What’s most satisfying about what we do is also seeing the average golfer enjoying the game more,” said Haase, a PGA member since 1975. “And we’re also fortunate to be located at Miles of Golf where golfers gather for equipment needs, practice and instruction.”
A comprehensive golf operation offering a retail store, practice and teaching facility, and club-fitting center, Miles of Golf is located at 3113 Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti, just 1.5 miles northeast of the US-23/I-94 interchange. The Miles of Golf offices can be reached at (734) 973-9004 or toll-free at (877) 973-9005. Additional information is available on the websites www.milesofgolf.com and www.kendallacademy.com
