Steve Stricker Edges Fellow Brand Ambassadors Zach Johnson and Brett Quigley to Capture John Deere Classic
Fairhaven, MA (July 13, 2009) – Titleist Brand Ambassador Steve Stricker followed up a tournament record-tying 61 on Friday with a final round 7-under 64 to capture the John Deere Classic by three shots. Stricker’s closing performance included five birdies and an eagle en route to a 20-under 264 total, to claim his second win of the season and the sixth of his PGA Tour career. He won the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in May. Fellow Titleist Brand Ambassadors Zach Johnson and Brett Quigley were among three players tied for 2nd place at 17-under 267.
Of the 14 players who finished among the top 10 and ties, 10 trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 105 players, compared to 23 for the nearest competitor.
Titleist was also the top choice in iron sets (64), wedges (147) and putters (64), and second in drivers (37) and fairway metals (31).

EUROPEAN: For the second consecutive week, the winner on the European Tour relied upon a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball, ZM irons, Vokey Design pitching, sand and lob wedges for his success. Following up last week’s Open de France ALSTOM success with a two-shot win at The Barclays Scottish Open, the 24-year old – the youngest ever winner of this event – fired a final round 69 at Loch Lomond to finish at 15-under 269.
Titleist Brand Ambassador Adam Scott (Pro V1, 909D2 driver, 909F2 3-wood, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design pitching wedge, Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport 2 MidSlant putter) and Søren Kjeldsen (Pro V1) tied for 4th at 12-under, one shot ahead of two players, including Titleist Brand Ambassador Nick Watney (Pro V1x, 909D2 driver, 909F2 3-wood, 909H hybrid, AP2 irons, Vokey Design pitching wedge, Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport Tour putter. Another Titleist Brand Ambassador, Ross Fisher (Pro V1x, 905R, King Cobra S9-1 3-wood, 909H hybrid, 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled pitching, sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport 2 SLT T10), tied for 8th at 10-under with golf ball loyalist Lee Westwood (Pro V1x). Seven of the Top 10 finishers relied upon Titleist golf balls for their success.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Barclays Scottish Open with 93 players, compared to 27 for the nearest competitor.
LPGA: Candie Kung (Pro V1) closed with a 2-under 69 to finish solo 2nd, just one shot back of the winner at the U.S. Women’s Open. Overnight leader Cristie Kerr (Pro V1) and In-Kyung Kim (Pro V1) tied for 3rd at 2-over 286. Brittany Lincicome (Pro V1x) shot a final round 70 to finish solo 5th at 3-over 287. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the U.S. Women’s Open with 116 players, compared to 20 for the nearest competitor.
CHAMPIONS: Titleist golf ball loyalists secured nine of the top 10 positions on the 3M Championship leaderboard, topped by Bernhard Langer (Pro V1). Langer chipped in for eagle on the 18th hole for a final round 7-under 65 en route to a 16-under 200, one shot better than Andy Bean (Pro V1). It was Langer’s fourth win this season and his eighth since September 2007, when he first began playing on the Champions Tour. Scott Hoch (Pro V1x) shot a final round 66 to finish two shots back and Tom Kite (Pro V1) shot his second 67 at the TPC Twin Cities to finish in solo fourth at 13-under 203.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the 3M Championship with 52 players, compared to 13 for the nearest competitor in the limited field event. Titleist was also first in wedges (50) and second in iron sets (17).
NATIONWIDE: Titleist Brand Ambassador Roger Tambellini (Pro V1x, 907D4 driver, 909F3 3-wood, 909H hybrid, ZB irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Newport putter) closed with a 2-under 69 to win the second annual Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic by four shots over Blake Adams (Pro V1x). Tambellini fired four consecutive rounds in the 60s and set a new tournament record of 20-under par 265. Craig Barlow (Pro V1x) finished solo 3rd at 15-under, while D.J. Brigman (Pro V1x) and Chris Anderson (Pro V1x) were among three players who tied for 4th another shot back. Of the 11 players who tied for 9th place or better, 10 trusted a Titleist golf ball for their success.
It was the third career Nationwide Tour win for Tambellini, vaulting him from No. 17 on the money list to No. 3. At the end of the year, the top 25 money-winners earn PGA TOUR cards for the 2010 season. Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 105 players, compared to 19 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also first in wedges (125) and putters (51). Titleist was second in drivers (25) and iron sets (35).
CANADIAN: Andres Gonzales (Pro V1) eagled the 18th hole on his way to a bogey-free 63 to capture the Saskatchewan Open by one stroke over Hugo Leon (Pro V1x) and Scott Gibson (Pro V1x). Gonzales finished at 14-under 274 to earn his first Canadian Tour title.
WORLDWIDE WINS: With five more wins this week, the 2009 Titleist golf ball victory count advanced to 81, that’s more than four times the nearest competitor with 18.
