THOMPSONVILLE, MICH – Crystal Mountain’s Adam Schriber looked on from his home in northern Michigan yesterday as longtime student Candie Kung finished second in the U.S. Women’s Open while Morgan Pressel worked her way into the top 15.
Schriber spent the early part of last week at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania working with both Kung and Pressel in advance of the U.S. Open. Kung jumped from 37th to 5th with a 3-under 68 in the third round followed by an impressive 2-under 69 in the final round. The clubhouse leader at +1, she seemed poised for a playoff before Eun Hee Ji dropped a dramatic birdie putt on the final hole to win the championship. Kung finished alone in second place.
Fellow Schriber student Morgan Pressel performed admirably as well. Pressel, who fell just short of victory a week earlier, recovered from struggles in the first two rounds and finished tied for 13th in the U.S. Women’s Open. The week prior at the Jamie Farr Classic, Pressel shot a final round 4-under 67 before falling short of victory in a sudden death playoff against Eunjung Yi. The day turned out to be a busy one for Schriber as Anthony Kim was playing in the final pairing with Tiger Woods at the AT&T National.
Schriber, one of GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Instructors, and The Director of Junior Instruction and Development at Crystal Mountain Resort will monitor the progress of Anthony Kim this week as he makes his bid for a victory in the British Open Championship at Turnberry.
Celebrating over 50 years, Crystal is a family-owned, four-season resort with 36 holes of championship golf, one of GOLF Magazine’s Top 25 Golf Schools in America, one-acre outdoor water playground, the Crystal Coaster Michigan’s only alpine slide, lodging, dining, skiing, IACC-approved conference facilities and Crystal Spa.
