Toronto-Based Brand Succeeds with Modern Twist on Golf, Sportswear Style
(TORONTO, ON) – Quagmire, the lifestyle apparel company known for its edgy, modern golf and sportswear, has retained Vienna, Virginia-based Buffalo Communications (“Buffalo”) to provide media-relations and publicity services.
The brand’s slogan, “Not Fit for the Fairway,” stresses that golfers don’t have to be low handicappers to have fun and look great. Style group names like “Dead Right,” “Wormburner” and “Hazard” underline Quagmire’s lighthearted approach to fashion.
“A favorite of both Hollywood celebrities and Tour professionals, Quagmire has established a very compelling market position,” says Rich Katz, Managing Director of Buffalo. “The line’s unique viewpoint appeals to a fashionable, energetic audience, and we’re excited to put our PR muscle behind this ‘cool’ brand to further raise its profile.”
Buffalo will develop and execute a multi-platform promotional program emphasizing Quagmire’s trademark styling that embodies a fun, irreverent attitude and casual surfer-chic aesthetic. Positioning Quagmire for consistent, high-profile editorial coverage in a wide array of fashion, lifestyle, golf and business media will fuel its foray into the U.S. market, as the brand already holds widespread acceptance and strong sell-through in Canada and the Caribbean.
“Quagmire is meant to be worn anywhere life takes you, from the beach to the golf course to the downtown scene,” says co-founder Geoff Tait. “While respecting golf’s traditions, the line incorporates the comfortable, more funky elements of our favorite surf and skate designs for a laid-back look. Ultimately, it’s about smashing your drives, hanging with your buddies and feeling good in what you wear.”
The 2009 Quagmire collection, in stores now, includes a variety of polos, button-ups, blazers, shorts, pants, capris, skirts and dresses. Distinguished by cut-and-sew detailing, unique logo and pocket placement, and contrast stitching, the pieces retail from $29 for some accessories to $85 for select bottoms. Crafted from the environmentally-friendly “Gud ‘N Dri” fabric, performance characteristics include breathability, durability, fast-drying properties, UV protection and antimicrobials to provide comfort on and off the course. Additionally, the pieces are soft, static-free, wrinkle- and piling-resistant.
Quagmire is sold at prestigious on-course shops throughout Canada, including Canadian Open hosts Angus Glen and Glen Abbey, Crowbush Golf and Beach Resort, The Fairmont Banff Springs, Fox Harb’r Golf Resort & Spa, Hamilton Golf and Country Club, Redtail and Tobiano. The line is also available at the country’s largest golf retailers, Golf Town and Nevada Bob’s, as well as Sporting Life in Toronto. Caribbean and U.S. customers include the Four Seasons Resort Great Exuma at Emerald Bay, Iron Horse, Ka’anapali Golf Resort, Olympic Golf and the Ritz-Carlton Orlando.
