Latest victory marks the 6th time UST Mamiya shafts have won a major championship
FORT WORTH, Texas – July 20, 2009 – With gut-checking persistence, overwhelming power and flawless consistency down the stretch, Stewart Cink trusted the quality, performance and feel of graphite shafts designed and engineering by UST Mamiya to deliver game-winning results in the tightly contested 138th Open Championship played at the Alisa Course at Turnberry. Cink, a 14-year PGA Tour veteran and long-time user of UST Mamiya shafts, earned his first major championship playing Proforce AXIVCore Tour Red 79 X shafts in both his Nike driver and three wood (editor’s note: Cink plays UST Mamiya ATTAS 8X shaft in his five wood when in the bag).
“Working closely with Stewart over the last several years, he desires a golf shaft for his driver and woods that performs with stability and can help flight the ball down,” said Jim McIntosh, director of tour operations for UST Mamiya. “With his 6’4 frame, Stewart naturally flights the ball higher than most on tour. The stiffer mid-section found in the Proforce AXIVCore Tour Red helps achieve a more penetrating ball flight with superior control, and has been an ideal fit for him since putting it in play at BMW Championship last year.”
AXIV technology in the recently introduced Proforce AXIVCore Series is a UST Mamiya exclusive, proprietary process of weaving specific high-modulus carbon fibers in the critical four axis directions necessary in shaft design to optimize stiffness, hoop strength, and torsional resistance, all in a single ply. The AXIV material resists deformation allowing the shaft to maintain consistent symmetry. The Proforce AXIVCore Series feature Blue, Tour Black, Tour Red models, and are now available in multiple weights and flexes to fit various swing profiles. The Blue is for the player seeking additional spin for longer carry distance, while the Tour Black is for the player seeking high launch, low spin and more ball speed. The Tour Red is for those players needing a very stable shaft that produces a penetrating ball flight with low spin. These counter-balanced models also reduce club heft to help players generate more clubhead speed for more ball speed resulting in longer drives.
This latest major tournament win marks the 6th major victory in the company’s storied 18-year history. Major victories for UST Mamiya: 1992 U.S. Open, 1995 British Open, 1996 PGA Championship, 1999 Masters, 2003 U.S. Open, 2009 Open Championship.
