2009 World Am to be Held August 31 – September 4 on 51 Myrtle Beach Area Golf Courses
July 23, 2009, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Golfers have until Saturday, August 1 to register for the 2009 PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, the “World’s Largest Single-Site Golf Tournament.” The 26th annual World Am will be held August 31 through September 4 with more than 3,000 golfers from 45 states and 20 countries converging on 51 Myrtle Beach area courses for the week.
Registration for the 72-hole tournament is $550 but new participants can save $50 with the use of the special World Am code “FRD09” before the August 1 deadline. Entry into the tournament includes four rounds of golf and a goody bag containing a PGA TOUR Superstore gift card, a World Am Cutter & Buck shirt, a logoed shoe bag, a logoedImperial hat, a sleeve of Bridgestone E6 golf balls, and MISSION Skincare sunscreen.
The entry fee also includes nightly admission for the golfer, and guest, into the “World’s Largest 19th Hole” at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center each evening after tournament play. The 19th Hole features an extensive golf exposition, equipment demos, entertainment, open bar, concerts, prize drawings and food from 20 of Myrtle Beach’s best restaurants.
The 19th Hole is also the site of the random prize drawings on Thursday night with more than $250,000 in prizes to be awarded in 2009. One lucky World Am golfer will walk away from the tournament with the 2009 grand prize – a Rolex watch. In addition to the Rolex, the World Am will be giving away a host of other gifts as random drawing prizes. Among the other giveaway items will be a VIP trip to the Players Championship, 10 sets of golf clubs and a trip to the Hootie & The Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am.
Hosted by Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, The PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship is a 72-hole tournament with participants competing for the right to be crowned “World Amateur Golf Champion.” Players are flighted according to their handicap and at the conclusion of the four rounds, flight winners advance to the 18-hole world championship playoff at the renowned Dunes Golf and Beach Club.
The International Pairs Championship returns in 2009 and once again, a World Am duo has the opportunity to become the United States Qualifier and win an all-expense paid trip to St. Andrews to represent the United States in the 2010 International Pairs World Finals.
The 2009 World Am will mark the third year of the Cory Lemke Parent-Child Championship, a tournament for any combination of parent and child participating in the World Amateur. Registration for the Parent-Child Championship is limited to the first 150 teams with no additional entry fee. The event will be played in honor of Cory Lemke, who won his flight at the age of 15 in 2002 and played countless rounds of golf with his father, Mark Lemke, a 12-year tournament participant. Cory tragically lost his life in a 2006 motorcycle accident but his memory will live on through the Cory Lemke Parent-Child Championship.
The World Amateur’s newest competitive entry is the CEO Challenge, tournament within the World Am open only to CEO’s, presidents, partners and owners from the United States and Canada.
