Matt Bettencourt finished T2 in Putts Per Round and T2 in Putts Per GIR at the Buick Open last week using a new version of the SuperStroke 85-gram slip-on putter grip, a prototype version of a grip that will soon be available to the golfing public.
Bettencourt averaged an amazing 26.8 Putts Per Round and 1.614 Putts Per GIR, his lowest ever putting performance on the PGA Tour. Since switching to the new oversized putter grip, Bettencourt has cut over three strokes off his putting stats.
Bettencourt has been using a prototype 85-gram slip-on SuperStroke grip designed to inhibit the breakdown of the wrists since the HP Byron Nelson Championship. Since the switch to the new grip, Bettencourt carded a career best 5th place finish at The Memorial Tournament, a course record 64 while qualifying for the US Open, a finish on the top of a star-studded leader board at a Major championship allowing him to play in next year’s US Open at Pebble Beach and a Top 15 finish at the AT&T National.
The 85-gram slip-on SuperStroke that Bettencourt plays will be available at a golf retail shops starting September 15.
More About SuperStroke
The large surface area of SuperStroke brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips. The Super Stroke’s size encourages use of a “soft hands” technique and ensures a smooth and fluid putting stroke.
