Grand Bear, Windance C.C. and The Preserve will test nearly 100 Professionals and Amateurs from 6 states for a $10,000 purse and the prestigious Coast Open Trophy
Biloxi, MS, August 5th, 2009: The Mississippi Gulf Coast Open Championship presented by Yamaha Golf Cars has seen a “whose who” of past champions for nearly 50 years – from local professionals to local amateurs. This year’s event is being played August 14-16 at Jack Nicklaus’s “Grand Bear,” Mark McCumber’s “Windance C.C.” and Jerry Pate’s “The Preserve” which has brought players from 6 states – so there is no guarantee it will be a local player winning this prestigious championship this year. With nearly 100 players – a record – and over a $10,000 purse – we want people to follow the action from their home or office so this year there will be live scoring with results posted as they come in “real time” on www.GolfCoast.com. Over 10 sponsors, specifically Yamaha Golf Cars stepping in to be a title sponsor this year, has turned this once local event into a regional major championship because it is the only true “open” in the entire Gulf Coast that allows any amateur or professional to pay his fees and compete for the championship.
“We are excited to hold this championship with such great players on the coast like Steve Wilson, a past champion who played in the Masters this year and is the reigning Mid Amateur Champion and many other past champions and great amateurs and professionals from across the region,” says Jeremy Davis, Tournament Director. The deadline to sign up is August 12, or when a full field of 96 players has been reached – go to www.GolfCoast.com – click on tournaments and sign up today.
