SCHAUMBURG, Illinois (Aug. 3, 2009) – At least five of the top six finishers at the Ricoh Women’s British Open played Nippon Shaft products in their irons last week at Royal Lytham & St. Anne’s Golf Club in Lancashire, England, including the champion, who took home a winner’s check worth $335,000.
“Nippon Shaft congratulates the Ricoh British Open champion and the many other players in the field who used lightweight steel shafts from Nippon Shaft in their irons during the tournament,” said Hiro Fukuda, head of North American sales for Nippon Shaft.
The first-ever Scot to win the championship shot 3-under par 285 on rounds of 74-67-71-73, using new N.S. Pro V-90 steel shafts, with a regular flex, in her irons. It was the second consecutive week in which different players won tournaments using the N.S. Pro V-90.
The 39-year-old, who gave birth to her second daughter only 12 weeks ago posted a three-shot victory over runner up Karrie Webb of Australia, who shot even par for the week with 77-71-72-68–288. A longtime Nippon Shaft-user, she played the N.S. Pro 1050GH steel shafts in her irons.
At least three of the four players who tied for third at 1-over par 289 also used three different kinds of Nippon Shafts in their irons, Fukuda said. One player used the N.S. Pro 950GH steel shaft; another used the 1050GH shaft, and a third used the N.S. Pro V-90 shaft.
Nippon Shaft has more than 50 professional victories worldwide. Based in Yokahama, Japan, Nippon Shaft is the No. 1-selling steel shaft in Asia with more than 80 percent of the steel shaft market. In North America, Nippon Shaft is the No. 2-selling steel shaft in the industry and is growing.
Nippon Shaft is a subsidiary of privately-held NHK, a Japanese automobile parts manufacturer. Nippon Shaft’s North American headquarters is in Schaumburg, Illinois.
