BALTIMORE, MD. – July 29, 2008 – STX, world-renowned as an industry pioneer in putter innovation, and for its patented Soft Face Insert Technology, announced today that the company will release two new interchangeable putters, the Profit 4 & 5 Putters, at the upcoming PGA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
STX was the first company to introduce interchangeable technology, a system that provides quick adjustments for feel and weighting through the changing of faces and weights. This ability to control the putter head and speed according to personal preferences and course conditions is a huge advantage.
The original STX series of putters that employed the cutting-edge interchangeable technology was the ProFit™ Series. This technically advanced line of putters was introduced in the late 90’s and it revolutionized the golf industry. The concept of movable parts and/or components changed the way golf companies designed their equipment forever. For the past decade, this idea has been applied to drives, hybrids, and in putters.
The new STX Profit 4 & 5 Putter models utilize the innovative STX interchangeable technology but have improved upon its initial engineering to create the most distinctive putters on the market. According to STX Director of Golf Steve Henneman, “These putters reflect classic lines found in a traditional blade but are accented with contemporary hardware, finishes, and state-of-the-art interchangeable technology.”
The STX Profit 4 Putter model has been designed for the golfer who prefers a standard head weight and only wants to adjust the face inserts according to course conditions, ball usage, and overall feel. The “softest” black insert comes standard on the STX Profit 4 Putter model. Two other STX face inserts, the medium resilient red insert and firmer green insert are fully compatible with the Profit 4 Putter but are purchased separately. A classically styled blade with a plumber’s neck hosel design accommodates these responsive inserts. Both a 34″ and 35″ length KBS shaft, known for its stability and true feedback, are offered. A face balanced dramatic black finish complements the stylish head which features a 71 degree lie and 3 degree loft. An exclusive STX black and white Golf Pride grip adds to the Profit’s overall feel. Suggested retail is $199 and is available in both right and left handed models. Individual STX face inserts will be sold for less than $10 each.
For the golfer who prefers to modify both the face inserts and weighting, the STX Profit 5 Putter model is the perfect choice. For a variety of responses, the STX Profit 5 Putter is available in three face insert options; the black, red and green insert options. The black face insert is “the” softest insert. It delivers the highest friction and resilience rate plus increased dwell time. Those characteristics are chemically formulated to get the ball rolling sooner and keep your putts on line. For a medium resiliency rate, the red insert offers an intermediate amount of dwell time for true control. And, for golfers who prefer a firmer feel, the green insert provides a harder feel with less resilience.
Similar to the STX Profit 4 Putter, the STX Profit 5 Putter resembles a traditional blade with a plumber’s neck hosel design but has a modern appearance with its bold hardware and striking black finish. The head has been designed to be face balanced and features a 71 degree lie and 3 degree loft. A premium KBS steel shaft engineered to respond to a golfer’s hands is available in both 34″ and 35″ lengths. A black and white Golf Pride grip exclusively designed for STX finishes the Profit 5 Putter’s feel and appearance. Suggested retail is $229 and is available in both right and left handed models.
“We anticipate that sells for the Profit 4 & 5 will be very successful. The traditional styling should appeal to most golfers and interchangeable technology now is so widely accepted, both models should experience some great sell-through,” added Henneman. “And, the Profit 4 Putter should appeal to a broader group of golfers with its sensitive pricing.”
About STX:
STX is acknowledged as being the golf industry’s foremost authority on insert face technology. Over a quarter century ago, the company introduced the first patented soft face elastomer insert, creating the “softest legal face in golf.” In the mid-90s the company’s research and development team introduced the first USGA approved interchangeable face insert and removable weight system. Both these and other innovations have helped create the standards for putter design today.
Behind the company’s uniquely styled putter heads is Robert “Bob” Engman, STX Putters’ Chief Club Designer. A world-renowned sculptor with works in the Hirshhorn Museum, the Whitney Museum and the Museum of Modern Art, Bob is also a three-time senior champion at Merion Golf Club in Philadelphia.
When Bob blends his skills with the STX engineers, the resulting putter design is a true work of art featuring face insert technology and the ultimate in performance.
