August 6, 2009 – Grayslake, IL – Only one of a handful of courses to host final stage qualifying for the 2009 U.S. Open earlier this season, Stonewall Orchard Golf Club will host the 87th Illinois PGA Section Championship August 31 thru September 2. A daily fee facility that is open to the public, this will be the fourth time that Stonewall Orchard has hosted the Illinois PGA’s most prestigious event and one that is currently on rotation with renowned private facilities Medinah and Olympia Fields.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Stonewall Orchard was the first Arthur Hills-designed course to open in the Chicago market and has quickly accumulated not only the accolades from both the golfing public and media, but has hosted prestigious events since opening in 1999, including three U.S. Open local qualifiers and a Super Seniors event as part of the Senior PGA Tour.
“We’ve been blessed with an outstanding piece of land and Arthur Hills really created a masterpiece’ said Jeff Pajula. “We’re thrilled to host two of the area’s top events this year and welcome the chance to be mentioned in the same sentence as Medinah and Olympia Fields. We’ve only been open since 1999, but with so many mature pine trees, oak trees and a golf experience that offers a very secluded setting, our course gives our guests the feel as if it’s been around for decades.”
Stonewall Orchard features natural, rolling landscapes throughout its magnificent 18-hole Lake County layout and features an abundance of tranquil wetlands and wildlife. From the 4,968-yard junior short course to the 7,074-yard, par 72 championship layout, each hole provides its own identity while completely immersing the golfing public into nature.
