(CARMEL, CA, August 12, 2009) The Shivas Irons Society announced today that it has entered into an agreement to represent the work of world-renowned golf landscape artist Linda Hartough.
Ms. Hartough is the only artist ever commissioned by both the United States Golf Association and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews to do the annual, official paintings and prints for the U.S. Open and British Open championships. She has painted the official US Open commemorative image annually since 1990.
Ms. Hartough has recently completed the commemorative image for the 2010 U.S. Open to be held at Pebble Beach. It is a stunning rendering of the 9th hole at Pebble Beach that clearly evokes the spectacular beauty of the much-loved links. Like all of the artist’s U.S. Open commemoratives, this one is already anxiously anticipated by collectors of golf art around the world.
Because of Ms. Hartough’s feelings about the Society’s connection to the “spirit of the great gemme” that she seeks to paint, she has given the Society the exclusive right to display the original oil painting on its website and to offer it for sale for the next ninety days. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support the Society’s charitable and educational activities.
The original oil on linen painting is offered at $95,000. Limited edition fine art prints will also be available through the Society. Both the original and fine art prints will be available to members of the Shivas Irons Society and the general public.
Steve Cohen, president of the Shivas Irons Society, said, “We are proud and excited for this opportunity. Linda’s golf landscapes have been acknowledged as masterworks by collectors and clubs around the world. This is an important step for us toward creating an online gallery of fine art and photography that will represent our long-held intention to be a vehicle for all of the creative arts inspired by the game of golf.”
Background:
Linda Hartough’s works are displayed in the permanent collections of such legendary clubs as Augusta National, Laurel Valley, Pinehurst and Pine Valley, as well as in the personal collections of Jack Nicklaus, Raymond Floyd, and Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The New York Times has referred to her as “the Rembrandt of the back nine.” Her studio is located on Spring Island, South Carolina.
The Shivas Irons Society is a California 501(c)3 non-profit organization based on the Monterey Peninsula. It was founded in 1992 and seeks to provide its members with opportunities for community, discovery and transformation through golf.
