SuperStroke Lite Putter Grip the #1 Jumbo Putter Grip at Reno-Tahoe Open

The new SuperStroke Lite grip by Tiger Shark Golf was the #1 oversized putter grip in play at last week’s PGA Tour stop, the Reno-Tahoe Open. Matt Bettencourt’s recent success with his SuperStroke grip has helped fuel interest from other PGA Tour players in the grip that measures 1.67 in diameter and weighs only 85 grams.

Three new players and 5 players total put the soon-to-be-released grip in play in Reno, including the runner up at the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines, who had his best finish of 2009 and told the story of how he got the new grip at the press conference following back-to-back 68’s on Friday and Saturday.

“It was one of Matt Bettencourt’s,” said the charismatic player usually known for using a long putter. “Matt’s caddie and Matt my caddie got together. I told my caddie on Sunday, the Buick, terrible, 38 putts on Saturday with a long putter.”

“I called Matt up and said: Listen, there’s not going to be a putter in my bag in the morning, you better find me one to use. I wasn’t bringing it. I saw one in the pro shop. I didn’t have any putters with me. Matt showed up with this one. I putted, shot 5-under on Sunday. Didn’t matter, but I still made some putts…First time I ever touched it.”

The player finished T9 and improved his putting by 1.34 strokes over his season average. The other new players using the SuperStroke Lite all experienced the same type of improvement on the greens. The golfer most known for his heroic US Open performance and battlefield promotion in 2005 finished T18 in putting and improved his putts per round by 2.42 strokes. Another player, a rookie out of Southern Methodist University, improved 2.18 strokes over his season average.

The SuperStroke putter grip is three times the size of a standard putter grip. The large surface area brings more of the grip into contact with the hands, inhibiting breakdown of the wrists and ensures a smooth and fluid putting stroke. Scientific tests have shown that the SuperStroke requires up to 32% less grip tension and represents a significant improvement over conventional putter grips.

The SuperStroke Lite will be available September 15. To learn more about SuperStroke or to order a grip directly, please visit www.superstrokegrip.com.
