After 10 years of unbroken success on the European market, the Swedish clothing brand Abacus makes an entrance in the USA.
“At the moment we are virtually unknown to the Americans. But after the Solheim Cup week, with the final the 21st-23rd of August, everyone will have seen us.” Says Sven-Olof Karlsson, Managing Director for Abacus.
Abacus develops sport and functional clothing, with golf at the heart of the inspiration. The brand has grown with 25% every year since it started. Abacus is now available in over 20 countries.
Sponsor the European Team
For the second time in a row, Abacus is dressing the stars of today and tomorrow of the European team in the Solheim Cup which is one of the world’s biggest women’s sporting events.
Every day the European Solheim Cup team and the Ping Junior team will meet the public and media in a new and unique Abacus outfit. Parts of both the women’s and men’s collections will be sold at the same time in the golf shop at the competition’s golf course, the respected Rich Harvest Farms outside Chicago.
“It is very seldom that a non-American brand is allowed to appear there.” Says a pleased Sven-Olof Karlsson, and adds “We have had a lot of international exposure over the last year, and even golf professionals who are not sponsored by us have competed in our clothing, for example during the Ladies British Open.”
The first step
“We have already been established in Canada for a few years.” He says. “And with the help of our new and strong Canadian distributor we are ready to go into the enormous market in the USA.”
The Solheim Cup is the starting shot for this next venture. Followed by Abacus taking part in the world’s largest golf trade show in Orlando, Florida in January, where the company will build on the connections that are required in able to meet the consumers in the USA.
