7 of the Top 9 Finishers and Nearly 55% of the Elite Field Wore Softspikes Cleats at Prestigious PGA Championship, Marking 52nd Major Championship Overall For Company
Brentwood, Tennessee, August 17, 2009 … The innovative Softspikes® Black Widow® Tour™, golf’s first adjustable cleat, captured its first Major victory in professional golf, as the winner of the 91st PGA Championship donned the innovative new cleats, while the Softspikes brand overall was worn by 7 of the top 9 finishers and nearly 55% of the entire plastic cleat field at golf’s final Major of 2009.
Additionally, and complementing the Black Widow Tour’s inaugural Major victory, Softspikes Pulsar® cleats were worn by the winner of the Nationwide Tour’s Price Cutter Charity Classic, where 27 of the top 32 finishers also wore PrideSports cleats.
“It’s truly incredible to see our newest cleat, the Black Widow Tour capture its first Major victory in its rookie year,” said John Hohman, VP of Marketing, PrideSports. “We expect this will be one of many victories to come for our Black Widow Tour cleat on the PGA TOUR, and across all of golf’s professional tours.”
In returning to its Black Widow roots, the Black Widow Tour cleats follow in the Softspikes heritage of providing extreme traction and comfort, combined with ultimate green-friendliness, while taking the Company’s proprietary technologies to the next level in offering golf’s first adjustable cleat.
PrideSports was formed in January 2003 following Pride Manufacturing Company’s purchase of Softspikes, Inc., and its sister company Trisport, Ltd. of England. This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premier golf accessories company, as Pride and Softspikes are the world’s leading golf tee and golf cleat lines, respectively. Today, PrideSports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.
