Vancleave, MS, August 16th, 2009: The Mississippi Gulf Coast Open Championship presented by Yamaha Golf Cars was a shootout of professionals and amateurs’ from 7 states. After three days at three of the top course on this popular 60 miles of Gulf of Mexico coast, Rodney Butcher, a sometimes Nationwide Tour professional, lifted the winner’s trophy of the Mississippi Gulf Coast with even par – only true “open” on the entire gulf region. The three course line up players needed to conquer to hoist the trophy were great tests of golf the region is known for like Jack Nicklaus’s Grand Bear, Mark McCumber’s Windance C.C and the final round at Jerry Pate’s The Preserve. “We are excited to hold this championship with such great Amateurs (young and old) on the coast like past champion Duke Simmons, and State Amateur Champion Lane Pippin – both were co-runner ups today as well as Mid Amateur Champion Steve Wilson,” says Jeremy Davis, Tournament Director, “And great regional professionals like our winner, Rodney Butcher” says Davis. Greenville, Mississippi amateur, Brother Sandifer, won the Senior Division with a score of two under par. For more info and complete results go to www.GolfCoast.com and click on “Tournaments.”
