Nike Golf athlete Simon Dyson captured his second career KLM Open title in The Netherlands bringing to 12 the number of global wins by Nike athletes in 2009. Winning with a birdie on the first extra playoff hole, Dyson began the final round six strokes off the lead and overcame that deficit after posting a seven-under-par score of 63. Dyson made a change to his Nike arsenal early in the week by putting the Nike Victory Red split cavity irons in his bag for the first time.
“I am over the moon to have won and I played great all week,” said Dyson. “I put Nike’s new VR Forged Split Cavity irons in the bag at the start of the week and I just clicked with them straight away, my iron play was really good. They gave me everything I wanted in terms of feel, performance, forgiveness and confidence.”
Using Nike Golf’s SQ SUMO” 5900 Tour driver, Dyson becomes the third Nike athlete in 2009 to win with a square-shape driver following Lucas Glover’s and Stewart Cink’s major championship victories at the U.S. Open and OPEN Championship, respectively. Dyson finished the tournament ranked fourth in driving accuracy with an average of 75%. Rounding out Dyson’s Nike arsenal were his Nike SQ SUMO” 3-wood, Nike SQ2 5-wood and his Nike SV Tour black satin 52º and 60º wedges. For optimized distance performance and spin control, Dyson used the Nike ONE Tour D 3-piece ball. Dyson also wore Nike Golf apparel and Nike’s popular Air Zoom Elite II footwear.
Dyson’s victory furthers the momentum that Nike Golf has enjoyed all summer long with its athletes having won seven of the last 14 tournaments on the PGA Tour, in addition to three PGA European Tour titles in 2009.
