Monday, August 24th — Coming off a strong week at the Wyndham Championship in North Carolina, PGA TOUR professional and OMEGA Ambassador Sergio Garcia visited the OMEGA Flagship Boutique on Fifth Avenue in New York City on Monday, August 24th.
“There is no doubt that last week was a decent week,” said Garcia. “It didn’t end like we had hoped, but to be out there with a chance to win again was good. It was a good sign and we hope that we can keep riding that momentum the rest of the season.”
Garcia, who has been a proud OMEGA Ambassador since 2003, helped the brand celebrate its long commitment to the game of golf and the recent opening of its Fifth Avenue Flagship Boutique in advance of The Barclays tournament.
“It is the beginning of the playoffs so there are four big tournaments coming up,” said Garcia. “They are good solid tournaments with all of the top players so it is always an extra challenge. I played well last year, so I’m hoping I can improve on that.”
The golfer made a special presentation on Monday, donating his personal OMEGA Mission Hills Double Eagle Chronograph Constellation timepiece to join the “Ambassador Collection Series” of autographed watches, joining fellow OMEGA Ambassadors Michael Phelps and Buzz Aldrin as part of the collection.
He also worked with children from The First Tee of Metropolitan New York program, who were invited as special guests along with members of the Golf Club at Chelsea Piers. OMEGA plans to donate 15% of the proceeds from timepieces sold during the event to The First Tee.
“It is great for Omega to come out and give back to charity,” said Garcia. “That is what makes you grow as a company – reaching out to people and offering your help. I am very proud of what Omega is doing and I am happy that I can help them.”
The OMEGA brand serves as the Official Timekeeper for some of the world’s leading tournaments and supports the game with tour and tournament sponsorships. In 2007, OMEGA became the title sponsor of the World Cup of Golf.
Sergio Garcia will represent Spain at the 2009 OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup, the 55th World Cup of Golf, which will take place November 26 – 29th at the Mission Hills Olazabal Course in China.
