National junior golf event kicks off September 26-27, 2009
Mesa, ariz. – Longbow Golf Club was selected to host Golfweek’s Junior Series Qualifier on September 26-27, 2009. One of the four such qualifiers, the 36-hole event is a stepping stone for the upcoming Golfweek’s Junior Invitational to be held two months later on November 7-8 at Reunion Resort in Orlando, Florida. The top five boys and girls, including ties (based on a full field of 60 boys and 24 girls) in each of the qualifying events will receive an exemption into the Junior Invitational.
“Of all the sports out there for juniors, in my opinion, golf provides the ideal combination of sportsmanship and competitive spirit,” said Jay Larscheid, Director of Golf at Longbow Golf Club. “The juniors learn to do the right thing, even if nobody would know. They learn to manage their emotions and perform under pressure. They also learn a game that can be played for life. For those reasons, and many others, we’re proud supporters of junior golf.”
The other qualifiers will be held: Treetops Resort, Michigan September 4-6; Pine Needles GC & Mid Pines GC, North Carolina October 24-25; and a qualifying event was already held at Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa, Florida on April 18-19, 2009. The AJGA, the largest association of its kind, has an annual junior membership (boys and girls ages 12-18) of approximately 5,000 junior golfers from 50 states and over 30 foreign countries.
