SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 30, 2009)-Now in its fourth year, Iconic™ Sport (www.iconicsport.com) hits a confident new stride coming into the 2009 PGA Fall Expo with new media coverage, new styles, new technologies, and a significant increase in sales volume and new accounts.
One of the originators of the luxury performance category, Iconic was among the first to combine high-tech performance features with a ground breaking, high-end fashion look. Designed by former NASA engineer, Leslie Chow, Iconic has been consistently ahead-of-the curve in offering ultra chic, fashion-forward designs combined with golf-specific functional enhancement.
“That’s one of the key reasons we chose to feature Iconic on the covers of our premier issues of both G, and G for women (www.gmagtv.com),” said Bobby Harris, publisher and executive editor at Miami-based Concept Media USA. “The styles are very classy and different from everything else that’s out there.” Both publications are slated for release in early September, with additional Iconic coverage included in the internal mix.
Iconic and designer Leslie Chow are also prominently featured in segments of a new video series on the business of golf, produced by CBS Interactive; now running on the www.bnet.com (business net) site.

As noted in one of the BNET segments, Chow has experienced Iconic sales to be on a major upswing. “In some ways the overall economic downturn has worked in our favor,” she said. “Because what people are buying, are things that are unique or really special – so it’s a lot of new accounts, and a great response to the UV protection aspect of our products.” And with a growing selection of highly sophisticated prints and glamorous yet functional body designs, Iconic provides a definitive choice for the fashion-conscious serious player.
Highlighted among the extended mix of new styles are Iconic’s del Sol UPF 50+ sun protection accessories. Along with the popular del Sol ultralightweight SunSleeves™, Iconic adds the del Sol SunDickie™; a new long-sleeve mock-turtle top; the del Sol SunShrug™; and the del Sol Sun cardigan.
The neck-protecting dickie was a result of a request from a customer who works for an oil company in the Middle East and needs the extra sun protection on the golf course, where the heat index and sunburn factors can become incredibly high. The cardigan and the more youthful shrug are comfortable, dressy, and eminently golf-able cover-ups to compliment and coordinate with cap and sleeveless tops, making for UV-savvy and highly stylish twin sets.
“We’re delighted to see that our products are being used for more than just golf,” said Chow. “Customers tell us they’ve been using Iconic products for tennis, cycling, hiking, boating, driving, travel, and a variety of other outdoor recreational and work activities.”
At the request of parents, she’s expanded the del Sol SunSleeves line to include junior sizes. “With atmospheric changes, kids are more susceptible to sun damage these days,” she explained. “Junior golfers and baseball players spend so much time in the sun practicing and during actual play, and they’re less likely to apply sunscreen frequently enough.”
All of the aforementioned styles are ultra light and come with UPF 50+ (the highest available UV rating for both UVA and UVB), and like the rest of line, they’re breathable, machine washable, with resilient stretch, and moisture wicking properties.
Ever at the forefront of technical enhancement, Iconic™ Sport also introduces a new fabric from Schoeller called ColdBlack™. “It’s in the dye,” explained Chow. “What it does is reflect both UV and heat, so the difference can vary some 10 to 20 degrees between having the ColdBlack™ and not having this treatment in dark colors.” Stylish golfers can thus remain elegant AND cool, in every sense. They can wear black and the heat will actually be reflected, not absorbed. The new fabrication is included in several of the Iconic bottoms, as once again the company asserts its leadership role in upscale golf apparel, combining innovative, elegant design with leading-edge technology.
Iconic™ Sport will be in booth #323 at the 2009 PGA Fall Expo. ###
