Champion Trusts Pro V1 Golf Ball, 14 Titleist Clubs in Record-Setting Victory. More Players in Field Trust Titleist Across Every Major Equipment Category.
Fairhaven, MA (August 31, 2009) – It was an all-Titleist final at the U.S. Amateur Championship, with the winner trusting the Pro V1 golf ball and 14 Titleist golf clubs in his record-setting victory. The 7 and 5 victory made him the youngest champion ever at the U.S. Amateur. It marks the second straight year the winner has been the youngest in the history of the event, which has been contested 109 times since the inaugural competition in 1895. The winner is about a month and a half younger than the 2008 champion, who was 18 years, 1 month old at the time of his victory.
This year’s champion, who was born in South Korea, set the stage when he took a 3-up lead by winning three of the last four holes in the pairing’s first of two 18-hole rounds. In addition, the runner-up relied upon a Pro V1x golf ball and 12 Titleist golf clubs for his success. Below are What’s in the Bag listings for the champion and runner-up:

Titleist Tops Equipment Counts: As the country’s top amateurs gathered at Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK., competing for the coveted national championship, 264 players, or 85 percent of the field of 312, made Titleist their overwhelming #1 golf ball choice. That is compared to just 23 players, or more than 11 times, the nearest competitor. The U.S. Amateur continued the golf ball momentum Titleist has enjoyed on the 2009 PGA Tour and across all of the worldwide professional tours, to the PGA Professional National Championship, and at every level of competitive amateur golf.
In addition to being the top choice in golf balls at the U.S. Amateur, Titleist was the tee-to-green favorite across every major golf club category. From drivers, fairway metals and hybrids, to iron sets, wedges and putters, no less than 40 percent of the field in any major equipment category placed their trust in the superior performance and consistency of Titleist equipment at one of the most prestigious individual events in amateur golf. The U.S. Amateur marks the latest in several high profile amateur championships this year where the trust and confidence in Titleist golf equipment has never been stronger.
