New Look Sustainability Website Launched By The R&A

September 3, 2009

2 September 2009, St Andrews, Scotland: The R&A has re-launched its bestcourseforgolf.org website in order to provide a more user-friendly and visually striking portal for anyone who is responsible for, works on or uses a golf course.

To make relevant material more accessible, bestcourseforgolf.org now tailors the information and guidance provided to users from three distinct groups: greenkeepers, administrators and, of course, golfers.

The new site makes greater use of striking images, videos and interactive functions, but it retains the essential features that made the previous site so successful; namely the sustainability map, the self-assessment facility, the benchmarking system and the forum.

It has already received acclaim, from Graeme Duncan, General Manager at Carnoustie Golf Links, host course of the 2007 Open Championship and 2011 Senior Open Championship.

“Carnoustie Golf Links has been an active user of the Best Course for Golf website for a number of years. With the continual advances in greenkeeping products and practices, environmental concerns and economic issues providing daily challenges to managing a golf course, it is no longer possible to work in isolation. Through this website, The R&A is providing tremendous support to the club manager and head greenkeeper.

“The latest version of the website provides an exciting new look and outstanding visuals, whilst retaining invaluable guidance and features. It is more user-friendly, making it easier to obtain information and advice.

“If, as a golf club, you are not currently making use of this facility,” Duncan added, “we would certainly encourage you to join up and take advantage of the considerable benefits on offer.”

For Steve Isaac, The R&A’s Director of Golf Course Management, the new website represents a significant advance in The R&A’s presentation of its environmental credentials.

“The original website was launched in 2004 and recognised The R&A’s commitment to the environment,” he explained. “This new site demonstrates a progression not only of our understanding of the sustainable golf course, but in how we present it to greenkeepers, golf course managers and golfers alike. We are providing golf courses with guidance and tools to execute better environmental practice, work to reduce their carbon footprint and make a significant contribution to their community.”
