(CAPE CHARLES, VA) – Bay Creek Resort & Club – managed by Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – will host a bevy of Patriot Golf Day fundraising activities over Labor Day weekend, September 4-7.
Patriot Golf Day, jointly endorsed by the PGA of America and Unites States Golf Association, supports the Folds of Honor Foundation. This non-profit organization provides post-secondary education scholarships for children and spouses of military men and women disabled or killed while serving America. Over Labor Day weekend, golfers nationwide will add $1 to their greens fees to fund Folds of Honor scholarships.
On Labor Day, Bay Creek will revert to weekday rates (vs. higher holiday rates) of $45 for active military / seniors, and $85 before noon and $55 after noon for non-military. All rates include greens and cart fees and practice balls. Active military can obtain a Bay Creek Champions Card – normally $80 – free of charge to save $30 off regular greens and cart fees on weekdays and $40 on weekends in 2009.
“With a strong military presence in this area, we’re happy to ease burdens on military families,” says Mark Wesolek, General Manager of Bay Creek. “Bay Creek offers outstanding golf experiences enjoyed by all time and time again.”
The inaugural Patriot Golf Day in 2007 was started by Major Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, a F-16 Pilot and PGA Professional. On Labor Day 2007, Rooney asked golfers to add $1 to their greens fees. His request resulted in donations of more than $1.1 million from more than 3,200 golf facilities. Patriot Golf Day 2008 generated donations of roughly $2 million dollars from more than 3,800 golf facilities nationwide. The past two years, more than 550 post-secondary educational scholarships have been granted through the Folds of Honor Foundation.
With many holes along the Chesapeake Bay and Old Plantation Creek, the Nicklaus layout is lauded as a “player’s course,” providing diverse challenges for all skill levels. At 7,417 yards, the course features impeccable landscaping and is characterized by large waste bunkers and more than 100 formal bunkers. Natural beauty – with azaleas and roses blooming, shell cart paths, sea breezes, gulls swooping and the rare bald eagle – are a feast for the senses.
At 7,250 yards, the accompanying Arnold Palmer Signature Course spoils golfers with a calming seaside feel, natural sand dunes, five sets of tees and perfectly manicured fairways and greens.
Opened along with the Palmer course in 2001, the practice facilities at Bay Creek provide a great setting for player development. Whether guided by experienced PGA-certified instructors or working individually, golfers of all skill levels will benefit from the state-of-the-art range with five target greens and short game area featuring a chipping and putting green with bunkers.
Bay Creek is about 45 minutes north of the Norfolk airport, four hours southeast of Washington, D.C. and two hours east of Richmond, representing an easy weekend getaway year-round from anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic. In addition to championship golf, Bay Creek boasts a deepwater marina, boutique shopping, exquisite dining, walking trails, beaches and the endless natural beauty of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
The 19,000 square-foot clubhouse replicates a 19th century stable and houses the Bay Creek Golf Shop and Coach House Tavern. The Aqua Restaurant, located in the heart of Bay Creek’s Marina Village, is a preferred destination for weddings and other social outings.
